Street Names

Random Map

About

A game where you name as many streets as you can in a city. Progress is saved locally in your browser as you go, but you can also sign up to save your progress.

Currently, only the United States is supported. This comes down to a data ingestion problem (you'll notice that some US cities are not very polished as well). This project is not open source, but contributions are welcome if you're interested in helping out.

Feedback

This site has rough edges. OSM data for bounds and street maps can be hard to consistently query. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please use the feature request board here

If you're the first person to play a city it may take a few seconds to load. Subsequent plays should be faster.

Custom Icons

You might stumble across a city with a custom icon in the leaderboard. Most of these are college towns or cities with a prominent feature. If you have a suggestion for a custom icon, let me know.

Note that colleges might not get their icon if they are not the most notable feature in the city. E.g the University of Pennsylvania is not the icon for Philadelphia.

Acknowledgements

The core gameplay is heavily inspired by Chris Arvin's SF Street Names game. If you want to play in SF consider playing his game instead. While this site allows for any city, his is more polished for that dataset.

Data is sourced from Open Street Map and the Overpass Turbo API.
